About

Hi! Thanks for checking out my blog and having a read of my football thoughts. That is what this is in a nutshell basically – a place where I share my opinions, analyse statistics and even occasionally rant about the beautiful game that we all know and love as football.

This isn’t my first blog. I previously created and wrote It’s Football Not Soccer between October 2013 and July 2017, a site where I wrote match previews, reviews, opinions, history articles and more. However, I probably made a key mistake early on by effectively treating it not as a blog but as a website that I felt I owed to readers to keep up. It meant that I was very strict on myself in getting articles published, almost forcing myself to write even when I knew I probably didn’t have the time. It was hard to get out of this mindset, but in the last few months it simply wasn’t enjoyable anymore and I eventually made the decision to call it a day.

If you were a reader of IFNS, you may have noticed that the majority of articles I wrote in the latter stages were opinion based pieces and that’s because they were the ones that I got the most pleasure from writing – from lambasting England’s Euro 2016 performance to going against the norm to agree with Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester sacking. In truth, that’s the one aspect I’ve missed from that blog, and the reason why Olly’s Football Thoughts has been created. But unlike before, there will be no regimented schedule this time around, especially as I head off to uni in September. I might publish three pieces in as many days and then not post again for another month.

If you do want to keep up to date with when I post, please do hit the follow button on this blog. You can also follow me on Twitter (@OllyAllen_) where I’m active most of the time. Finally, to have a read of some of my other work, I also write for It’s Gone Viral as well as Reading FC fansite The Tilehurst End.
